Greetings from the staff of the
Central Asian Historical-Cultural Research Center (CAHCRC)
located in Almaty, Kazakhstan!
The CAHCRC was founded in conjunction with Asia Research Associates
by R. Charles Weller in 2003. Mr Weller established the Center
while conducting his doctoral studies in 'cultural-civilizational theory and history',
working in the Kazakh language under the direction of Kazakh scholars
at Kazakh National University. After successfully defending his dissertation on
'Cultural-Civilizational Foundations of Religious Processes in the Kazakh Nation'
in March 2006, he continues serving as chairman of the CAHCRC,
with Dr Z. Aliakbarova serving as its in-country acting director,
and Dr Tursin Hafizuhli Gabitov, professor of philosophy and culture
at Kazakh National University, serving as its chief advisory board member.
The CAHCRC was officially registered in the summer-fall of 2003
with the Kazakhstan government as a non-profit
humanitarian organization with full rights and privileges
to conduct research, publish and teach in the areas of
history, culture, religion, society and politics.
CAHCRC is a research organization engaging in its task
for the public benefit of the Central Asian peoples and nations,
those visiting and/or residing among them
and all others who may benefit from its work.
CAHCRC does not concern itself with or involve itself in
the promotion of Western ideals of democracy or religion in Central Asia.
The primary vision and goals for the CAHCRC are to aid Central Asians
as well as non-Central Asians living and working among them in...
...understanding, appreciating and working to preserve their own Central Asian way of life,
including the rich history and culture of that lifeway,
while at the same time adapting to the challenges of the modern global world,
...perceiving and impacting the Central Asian world of today and tomorrow
from a Central Asian worldview, contributing to the enrichment of the Central Asian people
and their heritage as well as to those who visit, reside among
and/or take interest in them and their heritage,
...giving special attention to the issues of inter-ethnic and inter-religious peace,
mutual respect and dialogue in Central Asia,
particularly among Central Asian Muslims, Christians and Tengrists,
balancing this with genuine concerns for (ethno)national unity,
in a way which genuinely honors both God and human dignity.
We welcome scholarly or financial contributions to
and/or feedback concerning our work.
